LaSalle's official notice says reusable donations will be collected free of charge by electric van, either at a resident's door or at the collection point at the Dollard-St-Laurent Sports Centre. Home-pickup registration opened July 6, and spaces are limited because the service depends on volunteer availability.

A donation-based community sale will also run at the sports centre parking lot on weekdays from August 5 to 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items that do not find a new owner there will be given to a LaSalle organization for another chance to serve the community.

Start with the official accepted-item list

The Borough lists dishes, small appliances, clothing, shoes, fashion accessories, furniture, books, games and toys, baby accessories, computer and electronic devices, and decorative items among the accepted categories.

A category name is not automatic acceptance. Before booking or travelling, check Sollicité's complete current list of accepted and refused items through the official LaSalle notice. Do not leave anything at the collection point outside the stated hours or assume that an unsuitable item will be taken.

• Keep sets, hardware, cords, chargers, shelves, and instructions together.
• Confirm that moving parts, doors, drawers, zippers, and switches work.
• Photograph the item before pickup so its condition is documented.

Prepare an item for a useful next life

Wipe the item clean, empty every drawer and pocket, remove personal information, and disclose wear or repairs. For electronics, back up what you need, sign out, unlink accounts, erase personal data, and confirm the reset before the device changes hands.

Make the handoff easy to judge. Add dimensions to furniture, sizes to clothing, model numbers to appliances, and a clear inventory to games or sets. Reuse works better when the next person can understand the item's real condition without guessing.

Choose the route that fits the item

The LaSalle program is one useful local option, not the only one. If a specific person nearby could use the item now, post it on SwitchHands with current photos and an honest description. You can offer it, swap it, or name a practical service you would accept in return.

If you prefer to donate through a community organization elsewhere in greater Montréal, the City says 211 can help locate places that accept furniture or clothing in good condition. The service is available around the clock and in more than 200 languages.

Montréal ecocentres also accept many reusable categories in good condition, including furniture, clothing, books, games, tools, small appliances, and sports equipment. Eligibility, accepted materials, hours, and limits can change, so check the current municipal page before leaving home.

Do not disguise disposal as donation

A donation should not transfer a repair bill, infestation risk, missing critical parts, or a safety problem to another household. If an object is broken, mouldy, contaminated, recalled, structurally unsound, or impossible to verify, describe it accurately as parts or repair material only when that use is appropriate—and otherwise use the correct disposal route.

The LaSalle notice directs residents to Ecocentre LaSalle for items the reuse initiative does not accept. Confirm the ecocentre's current instructions before transporting a large, upholstered, electronic, or hazardous item.

Turn one spare object into a clear local offer

If your item is useful but you cannot make the event dates—or you want it matched directly—create a listing with its exact condition, dimensions, included parts, pickup limits, and two or three things you would genuinely accept. A free offer is useful; a fair swap can be just as useful.

The circular economy becomes real when the next step is specific. Choose one object today, prepare it properly, and give a nearby person enough information to say yes with confidence.
